Every business wants media exposure. Getting into magazines or on TV is a great way to get your business out there.

Step 2: Monitor source requests.

Check your inbox three times a day (5:35 a.m., 12:35 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. ET), Monday through Friday.

Look out for source requests relevant to you or your client’s industry, expertise or personal experience.

Step 3: Send the perfect pitch.

Pitch the masked email address listed in the source request. Include answers to the journalist’s questions, any specified requirements and a bio with you or your client’s contact information.

If the journalist is interested, they’ll reach out to you.

Step 4: Become a paid for subscriber on ‘Help a Reporter Out’.

If you have some budget, become a paid for subscriber on helpareporter.com.

You can then choose keywords to filter through media opportunities.

As a paid subscriber, you can also insert automatic profiles onto pitches to journalists, and you can get alerts when a media opportunity is approved.

Step 5: Leverage any media opportunities you land.

Make sure your website and lead generators on your website are ready to go so that you can leverage any media opportunities you get.

Make sure you have a competition or specific media promotion in place to maximize any media coverage.

And spread the word of your media coverage on social media both before and after.
